Frequently Asked Questions
What makes you different?
I surf and paddle year-round, and not just in the summer. That means I’ve been in the water with icicles on my face! This has afforded me a full range of local weather and shoreline experience.
Lake Ontario has been a part of my life my whole life and I know She moves, Her beauty, and especially Her dangers. I am also experienced in Her Sisters - Lake Erie and Lake Huron. There are huge differences between Great Lakes, in-land lakes, rivers, and the Ocean, and I am enthusiastic about showing people about the water around us!
I also have 10+ years of retail sports, surf and sup hard goods product knowledge, so I am able to advise those who are interested in choosing and comparing products from outside retailers.
My friends, clients, and colleagues know I’m always super stoked to talk to folx about surfing, SUP, and the Great Lakes!
Do you rent out gear?
No. I do not have the extra gear or resources for any rentals for any boards or wetsuits at this time. For students who may not have one or two pieces of safety equipment for their lesson (leash, PFD, whistle), I do have extras available to lend out during the class at no cost.
I have my own SUP, why should I take a lesson?
You don’t have to…but with the huge influx of SUP ownership across the country, the existing SUP and surf community has encountered many new super stoked individuals entering the waters with little instruction or experience. I want to help these excited board owners paddle and surf better and do so safely, so they can get the most out of their board purchase and experience on the water.
What’s the difference between surfing and SUPsurfing?
Technically they’re both considered surfing - but there’s a big difference in technique and equipment between the two. With surfing, you’re paddling into the waves with a surfboard on your stomach and then “popping up”. With SUPsurfing, you’re catching the same waves as any surfer, but you’re already standing up on a SUP and paddling for the wave with your SUP paddle.
